Lately, I have been overwhelmed by the fast-paced destruction of our political world. After a couple of months of withdrawing from upsetting news, I decided that I needed to get involved—to educate myself so I could engage in activities that will stop the dismantling of our constitutional rights. Making even a small effort would lift my morale.
I am building a community of my family, friends, and acquaintances who also want to push back on the maneuvers that reduce our democracy. I won’t shy away from conflict when I engage someone who thinks differently from me. That’s the hard part. Maybe they won’t agree with me, but I do believe as they become aware of the losses that we will no doubt feel from the attempt to narrow our freedoms, they will climb on board.
My personal support system is growing as I share what I’ve learned.
There are the two sites that I follow to educate myself. May you find them as helpful as I do.
I’m also feeling pretty overwhelmed, but I’ve been working with my local Democratic team to support the right people in local elections, such as school board, library board, etc. These grass roots people are very important, too. Part of the problems we’re having now is due to the fact that we failed to pay proper attention to government at the local level, allowing them to build their ‘base.’ We also need to strengthen our base and try to counteract and resist.
